THE SOLUTION
A globally proven platform already preferred by carriers
The chosen platform had to be one that carriers actively wished to adopt in order to grow their own businesses.
It was vitally important for Nestlé to enjoy a strong and mutually trusting relationship with its carrier partners. Nestlé’s transportation managers wanted, in the words of supply chain architect Vincent Versee, to put [themselves] in the shoes of carriers, and via that mindset find a pathway that carriers themselves would support.

This is where the Transporeon Platform stood out. Nestlé had already gained valuable experience with the platform, having partnered with Transporeon since 2012. Additionally, its proven market penetration and strong presence within the carrier community were key deciding factors.
There was already substantial satisfaction with the advantages and functionalities provided by the platform. Nestlé had enjoyed great success with Transport Assignment enhancements such as Best Carrier and No-Touch Order, while planning and execution were boosted by Time Slot Management. While those capabilities were important, they were far from the main criterion. What mattered just as much was that additional tools could be comfortably integrated into the existing solutions landscape.
Nestlé’s global reach and requirements were also important considerations. Yes, the company could build its own portal for carriers, but the implementation and IT support of such a system across a diverse global landscape would be a difficult project in itself. Training and maintaining an enormous range of carriers in multiple territories where they speak a wide range of languages, would make it even harder.
Transporeon’s proven support team offered unparalleled backup in this important and sometimes undervalued area.
Combined with Transporeon’s proven success in working proactively with customers to transform cumbersome manual processes into digitally led growth stories, the entire package offered a compelling, shared vision for future collaboration and business growth.
Stress-free integration at a much lower cost
The Transporeon Platform does not replace existing IT systems for a high price—rather, it integrates with and adds to them, saving users time and money.
This facility was a crucial consideration for Nestlé managers, as it meant the company would not have to endure the risks, costs and delays associated with phasing out and replacing its fully established SAP-based framework. Instead, Transporeon products could be seamlessly integrated to complement the existing structure.
The facility to integrate offered another important benefit. It enabled Nestlé to take a Transporeon-agnostic, carrier-focused approach to this process, concentrating on either EDI intregration or existing carrier systems as appropriate and then meeting agreed carrier protocols.
Nestlé’s transportation partners are thus able to take significant responsibility in the set-up and execution of their end-to-end processes, all with Transporeon products as additions to integrate with their ongoing Nestlé SAP-based framework.
The company carried out a major training programme to facilitate carrier onboarding, in collaboration with experienced Transporeon personnel who assisted with all implementation queries. This was particularly valuable in transportation territories without a high level of penetration of digital technologies.
