Building a pathway to seamless efficiency
The challenge
Since 2007, ArcelorMittal Hamburg has been digitalising its logistics processes using the Transporeon Platform. Located in a traffic-prone area, their plant often experienced delays with carriers missing their time slots due to rush-hour congestion. Limited space on site exacerbated the issue, leading to turnaround times of up to four hours.
To address these challenges, they implemented Time Slot Management to enhance the reliability of truck loading. In 2022, they also adopted the Peripass yard management system. Integrating Transporeon with Peripass allowed the company to optimise facility conditions, prioritise punctual trucks and enable driver self-registration in their local language.
“Without Time Slot Management, our business would operate as it did 20 years ago. Trucks arrived at our shipping yard with absolutely no plan at all. We had long waiting times and we couldn't plan our staff efficiently. Success was not really possible. The challenge
ArcelorMittal started using Time Slot Management aiming to make the truck loading process more reliable. Their plant is located in an area prone to traffic jams, and historically carriers were rarely punctual for booked time slots. Due to the rush hour, the trucks were constantly late. And due to the limited space on their premises, they were not able to keep up with the high volume of trucks arriving after rush hour, or prioritise trucks that were on time. Turnaround times were up to 4 hours.
